The
complete tub before work begins.
|
We
start by giving us a line to work to as we need to work from the
inside to put the join in before we split the tub.
|
Here we see I have
already set out the screw hole keeping in mind you need to miss
the undercarriage spats and the floor pan.
|
Don't
cut all the way through as we want to drill the cleco holes prior
to final separation
|
|
|
|

You get the whole
picture here. We are now ready to prepare the inside for glassing
the joggle and this step is crucial for a good bond. This is
an FA series two chopper, the extra tub scoops come standard
in Australia.
|
|
______ _______
I use a die grinder
for this job and clean all the wax off with acetone and do it
at least two times to make sure as the bond will be affected
if you don't.
As always, I like to do a job just once, it save so much time
and frustration. This will be the fourth tub I have split this
year... One day I might get good at it LOL
|

This is really the
best bit.
The duck tape is available everywhere but you must cut it and
put it on in a relaxed state or it will pull off the panel as
it shrinks. So cut it to length before you put it on the panel.

|
I use shuffler Epoxy
resin and 3 oz glass cloth but you can use polyester resin if
you can put up with the stink. The epoxy bonds very well as
long as you prepare the surface correctly.

All done but drill
the holes before you make the final cuts and split the tub look
just great and you'll be so happy that you took the extra time
to do this job as it will save you days not hours in the build
and servicing.
|

This job is done
prior to splitting for the first time. We have only one more
job to do - fill the cut line

Here we use the duck
tape again to fill the cut line. It just makes the final job
look so good and no more gaps.

I
use shuffler resin and Qcells as a filler. It's very light and
easy to sand, this really is all it takes.
